A man has been charged with drunk driving after striking a pedestrian and killing her. The 22 year old man was driving down the roadway when he lost control of his vehicle, hit the woman, drove up an embankment, went back into the road, crossed the median and hit an additional vehicle. The 47-year-old woman who was hit died at the scene of the marathon accident.
The 22-year-old driver, two of the passengers in his vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries that were received in the crash. There was no indication that any additional people were injured or taken to the local hospital.
The man was charged with driving under the influence and remains in police custody. He also faces additional charges. The man may or may not have already procured an attorney to represent him in court when he faces these charges.
Drunk driving accidents are one of the top causes of death on the roads. They result in heavy fines, jail time and usually a permanent offense on the culprit’s record, but more importantly they are behind innumerable serious injuries and loss of life. Drivers are encouraged to refrain from driving if they will be operating a motor vehicle.
People who have been involved in drunk driving accidents, or their families, might be entitled to compensation or the cost of medical expenses. For any questions regarding drunk driving accident claims, investigations or laws, speaking with an experienced West Virginia attorney might be very beneficial.
