New Jersey man faces DWI and weapons charges after accident

A New Jersey driver is facing several serious charges after causing an auto accident involving four other vehicles. Three individuals reportedly suffered injuries, and the Lakewood man believed to have caused the multi-car collision was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated and other weapons-related violations.

The car accident occurred just before 8 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 8 when the accused man slammed into a vehicle stopped at a red light. The force of the impact resulted in three other vehicles at the light sustaining damage. One vehicle involved was an emergency vehicle carrying individuals from the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad.

Officers from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department subsequently conducted an investigation which turned up a 9mm handgun and hollow-point bullets in the man’s vehicle. This discovery, along the driver’s alleged intoxication, has led to charges of reckless driving, failure to maintain lanes, assault by auto, careless driving, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and DWI. The driver was also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and receiving stolen property.

When multiple vehicles are involved in an accident, injuries are far more likely to occur. Those who have been harmed because of another’s poor judgment on the road might consider their future financial burdens when considering a personal injury lawsuit. If a driver is deemed negligent, they may be held liable for damages. Awarded compensation may assist a plaintiff with medical costs, property damage and potential pain and suffering.
